A caregiver to her grandparents—both suffering from dementia—Sydney has a deep connection to the ways family members or loved ones can help those suffering from progressive memory loss. Sydney's firsthand experiences has taught her that providing an engaging environment is one of the best ways to stimulate cognitive performances. When Sydney discovered hat solving puzzles was an ideal way to spend an afternoon with her grandparents, she took it one step further: she invented the so called Memory Care Puzzle. She wanted to tackle two issues at once: The Memory Care Puzzle is an interactive yet not-overwhelming group activity that also allows Sydney's grandparents to remember her. Sydney believes that caring for loved ones should be a holistic experience; she believes in helping a whole person, not only supporting their cognitive health but their emotional and social needs, as well. She invented the Memory Care Puzzle to bring her parents and grandparents in the same room and put together the pieces of their favorite memories.
Sydney, a social entrepreneur, donates 100% of all proceeds to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. While Memory Care Puzzle is still in its infancy, as the company grows, Edward will remain committed to contributing all profits to Alzheimer’s and dementia research. Memory Care Puzzle models itself after corporate philanthropy, its “Give into/give back” motto emphasizing that every product that gives into a meaningful cause will also give back to the same cause with its profits. As Memory Care Puzzle expands, the team expects that care, awareness, and support for Alzheimer’s and dementia sufferers and their families will, too, continue to grow.
